Continue reading »]]> Due to popular demand, our Auditions for LDANP’s Got Talent 2012! have been extended until May 30 2012!

We welcome solo and group performances by children, youth and adults with learning disabilities and those who support them. LDANP wants you to show off your talent, whatever it may be! Singing, dancing, acting, poetry reading, drawings and sculptures, or even comedy acts.

Please contact our offices in order to make an appointment for your audition. Due to demand, appointments will be made on a first come first serve basis. For more information about our auditions, and what to bring, please contact us at 905-791-4100.

In order to recognize your talent, participants will have their personal information and talents listed in our online LDANP’s Got Talent 2012 Program. All participants are encouraged to submit a photo and brief biography for our online program.  Each participant will receive a LDANP’s Got Talent 2012 Certificate and 2 lucky students will receive a gift certificate for 1 free month of lessons at Synergy Performing Arts Academy.

In addition to singing, dancing, gymnastics, comedy acts, and countless other performances, we also accept works of art for display.  All art must be sent to our offices by May 31, 2012.

Auditions will be held in suite 104 of the Bramalea Civic Centre.

The Summer Support Program is designed to incorporate learning and fun in a day-camp format, designed for participants between the ages of 6 and 12.  They will be encouraged to develop and improve study skills, learn computer skills and take part in exciting social skills activities.

There is a full day format, but the day-camp is structured into separate half-day components that focus on specific areas. Parents can choose any combination of full-days and half-days over multiple weeks to build a more diversified camp that best meets the needs of your child.

Bright Minds 9am-12pm:

Academic Instruction

• We create a positive learning environment with a stress-free atmosphere;
• We customize our program to each participant;
• Our certified teacher and tutors work to improve all academic levels;
• Learning becomes fun!

Morale Boosters 1pm-4pm:

Social Skills

• We assist in the development of social, life skills and social problem solving strategies;
• We provide an activity based program for  participants to  practice strategies;
• We encourage friendship making and positive inter-personal relationships;
• We work to correct and prevent social behavioural problems;
• We foster self-awareness and a positive outlook.

Outdoor games and off-site activities are used to reinforce social skills, and participants must be able to engage in moderate physical activity for 30~90 minutes each day to be enrolled.

Full-Day Camp 9am-4pm:

In addition to a combined Bright Minds and Morale Boosters program, kids registered for the full day also learn basic computer skills.

Computer Skills

• We teach the compensatory skill of typing;
• Participants increase their written output;
• Participants increase their familiarity with the computer keyboard;
• Participants learn the basics of MS Word and internet use for homework.

Participants may be enrolled in any one the morning programs as part of the full day program. Simply make your selection on the registration form.

Payment information Please note there are fees for the program: Full day: $250/week Half day: $150/week (Mornings or Afternoons)

Continue reading »]]> Once a month we provide a forum for parents of children with learning disabilities and/or attention deficit disorder to meet, discuss, share, learn and support each other under the guidance of our group facilitator.

Parent-Support-2011-2012

The group is self-directed – we present the topics you want to learn about or discuss – so please send us your suggestions; we seek to discuss topics which are important to you! Topics covered in the past include: nutrition, medication, financial planning, parenting skills, education, social skills, employment and advocacy for children with learning disabilities.

The program is FREE, but we ask you to register in advance. Meetings are typically held in our classrooms in the Brampton and Mississauga locations, but we may change sites to accommodate the size of the group and the topic.  Feel free to attend the location most convenient to you!

As our annual programs near completion, we hope to see you at our May and June Parent Support Group!

In order to raise funds for our programs and services for people with learning disabilities, Rutherford Bingo has agreed to donate a portion of their earnings to LDANP.  Please join us in our endeavour to help children, adolescents and adults with LDs in the Region of Peel, and attend our first Bingo Game on the 1^st of May at 7pm!

Continue reading »]]> On April 19th 2012 LDANP/LDAM staff went to St. Josephs Secondary School in Mississauga to present to the DPCDSB Mississauga South family of Schools about Learning Disabilities and how the Learning Disabilities Association can help children, adolescents and adults who struggle with LDs.

The Special Education Teachers were very receptive and grateful for the information that was sheared with them. They were impressed by the programs that we provide to the Learning Disabled Community.

We at LDANP/LDAM would like to thank them for inviting us to come speak to them.  We would also like to thank them for their continued support and partnership.

Continue reading »]]> On April 25, 2012, LDANP took part in Dufferin Child and Family Services’ Literacy Fair.  Focused upon foster families and children in care, the DCFS Literacy Fair sought to build awareness about supports, programs, and services available to children and youth.

As the closest LDA Chapter, LDANP attended DCFS’s Literacy Fair and provided parents and representatives of similar organizations with information about services and programs available to people with learning disabilities.  Our representative also spoke to interested parties about LD/ADD/ADHD advocacy within the local community and school system.

On behalf of persons with learning disabilities within Peel, we would like to thank DCFS for inviting us to their Literacy Fair, and we wish them much luck in their endeavours to help those in need!
