C. 2:00 – 2:45 “The Science of Dyslexia”

This presentation discusses what new brain science reveals about the reading brain. Up to 1 in 5 children/adults are simply not wired to read. Science has looked into their otherwise gifted brains and has developed exercises that wires the reading centres in brains of these struggling readers. Why some children struggle with reading used to be a mystery. No longer. The workshop briefly discusses the phonemic, phonological and decoding exercises that wire the reading centres in the left side of the brain. Clues to dyslexia and the myths and misconceptions of reading disabilities (dyslexia) are discussed.

E. 4:00 – 4:45 “Making the RDSP Work for You – Government Grants to Help People with Disabilities and their Families Save for the Future”

The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is available to help people with disabilities and their families save for the future. To help you save, the Government of Canada will pay a matching Canada Disability Savings Grant of up to $3,500.00 per year on your contributions. The Government will pay a Canada Disability Savings Bond of up to $1,000.00 a year into the RDSPs of low-income and modest-income Canadians. No contributions are necessary to receive the bond. RDSP eligibility, the Disability Tax Credit, the Canada Disability Savings Bond and Grant, and steps to open an RDSP will be covered during this presentation.
